Co-combustion of Biomass and Coal

Avedøre Unit 2 Power Plant

With the state of the art technology in USC boilers, STF Group is able provide high efficiency boilers with co-combustion of biomass pellets in coal fired boilers.

Biomass pellets is a rather standardised fuel that can be utilized using the traditional coal firing technology. This includes milling plant, pneumatic transport and burners which can be used for either pulverized coal or biomass pellets.

STF Group has developed this system to a degree where the fuel range goes from 100% biomass pellets.

Thus large quantities of biomass can be utilized while maintaining the full fuel flexibility.

AVEDØRE POWER PLANT

Avedøre Power Plant, close to Copenhagen and owned by DONG Energy, is one of the most efficient, fuel flexible, and environmentally friendly power plants in the world.

The main plant in Avedøre is the Unit 2, incorporating a BWE once through tangentially fired Ultra Super Critical (USC) Boiler.

The USC boiler has been designed with a unique multi fuel firing system which makes it possible  to utilize coal, HFO, NG and wood pellets as fuels in the same burners.

The maximum wood pellets capacity is equivalent to 73% of the full load fuel input corresponding to 585 MWt, making it the largest biomass fired power plant in the world.
